Requests for archive material

It is not possible to reserve archive material in advance by telephone or via the internet. Following a request at the counter the material is immediately removed from the vault, so that you can make a start on the sources within a few minutes.

House Rules

Reading Room
Every visitor may consult archive material, photographs, books and newspapers in the reading room of the Regional Archive. Furthermore, a computer is available for the visitor with which various catalogues and databases of the Regional Archive can be searched. In addition, the internet can be surfed for supplementary information.

The most important source is the General Index. This collection contains hundreds of thousands of cards, upon which information from just about all conceivable genealogical sources can be found: the registers of Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, the Registry of Births, Marriages and Deaths, conveyance registers, notarial cartularies and many other registers and sources. A list of these is available from the reading room assistant.

Photocopies of a page from a bound (copy) book or from an original archive item. (This solely when it does not concern registers/sections. This in connection with the vulnerability of the originals):

A4 format € 0.35

A3 format € 0.50

Larger formats are possible, more information can be obtained form the reading room assistant.

Purpose and Tasks

Purpose and tasks - products of the organisation.
The Regional Archive is a government institution whose main task is the maintenance and making available of information. Within the Regional Archive the tasks are split into three fields: preserving, processing and utilisation. Every archivist has a number of tasks under his management and is responsible for the proper performance thereof. An explanation of the three task fields is given hereunder:

Acquisition

The Regional Archive has always had an interest in material with regard to the Voorne-Putten and Rozenburg region. There is a good chance that you keep interesting documents at home: old photographs, the minute book from a club of which your grandfather was once the secretary, a diploma or certificate. In order to avoid such items from becoming lost or to show them to their best advantage, you can donate them to the Regional Archive. If, following assessment, it is incorporated into the collection, you are ensured that it will be managed in the correct manner. For donations you can contact the Regional Archivist.
