Questions and answers

Is the archive accessible for everyone?
Yes, everyone is very welcome to carry out research into, for example, the family tree, the history of a house, or whatever you want to know, during the opening times of the reading room. The opening times of the reading room are Tuesday to Friday from 9.00 to 16.00 hours.
Are there any charges for the performance of research?
In the first instance there are no charges for a visit to the archive. Only if you decide to have copies made or order photographs is there a charge. Also if you decide to have the archive assistants carry out research, a fee of 13 euros per half hour will be charged.
Am I allowed to make copies of archive material?
The possibility exists to make copies, but the archive material is sometimes very vulnerable, or already damaged, as a result of which it would be irresponsible to make a copy of it. In such cases digital photographs can often be taken. Please refer to the price list for a summary thereof.
Am I allowed to take photographs with a digital camera?
You are permitted to take a digital camera with you for the photographing of archive material. There are no charges for this. You are however requested not to press the archive items flat or otherwise handle them in such a way that damage is caused.
Is the Regional Archive accessible for invalids?
The entrance to the Regional Archive is not easily accessible for wheelchairs due to a doorstep, the main entrance to the building however is easily accessible. You can access the reading room easily via a side entrance. There is also an invalid toilet in the building.
Can I carry out genealogical research in the archive?
By far the most visitors to the archive are genealogists. The Regional Archive therefore started many years ago with the setting up of a general index. All relevant data from baptism, marriage and death certificates, the Registry of Births, Marriages and Deaths, notarial deeds and judicial archives are copied on to name cards, which are filed alphabetically and chronologically. This simplifies searching considerably, and also prevents frequent searching of the original documents, whereby they remain protected. These may be consulted but they do not provide any new information. Furthermore, many Baptism, Marriage and Burial certificates are copied and can be consulted in the reading room. Copies can also be made of these without any problems.
Can I get a guided tour of the depot?
During the Open Archives day in October you will have the opportunity to have a guided tour through the vault area. For groups, such as clubs, an appointment can be made.
Do you also sell books?
Yes, in the archive shop in the reading room publications of, amongst others, the local historical societies are sold. Second-hand books are also on sale.
